Paypal users beware …

October 4, 2008

Interesting.  The only way to ask Paypal any questions after their “resolution” of a dispute is via their general webform.  So I did.  I asked several specific questions as to how they resolved the issue when the seller didn’t provide any additional information, had the item 30 days and retail stores don’t accept returns that late, and a couple of other questions.  Their reply is a fine example of not answering ANY of the questions I asked.

Dear ####

Thank you for contacting PayPal. I am sorry to hear about this
situation, and understand your frustration and concern over the issue.

Hello my name is [generic name], and I am happy to assist you with your concern.
We do apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you.

Regarding case PP=###-###-### we have requested that the buyer returns
the item to you in order to receive a full refund. We have also
requested the buyer to provide us with the tracking information for the
item. If they fail to provide this information within10 working days the
claim will be closed in your favour.

I appreciate the opportunity to assist you. We are committed to making
your experiences at PayPal pleasant and rewarding.

Sincerely,

  1. PayPal shares this with eBay: “Our mission is to avoid personal contact with customers.”

    Lesson learned on my end.

Luckily the dispute was dropped when the buyer apparently decided he didn’t want to ship the unit back – the unit that had worked perfectly previous to shipment, and that he had been using for a month. I still suspect the whole issue was simply revenge for his not getting positive feedback from me.
