Old Rockers and Davey Concepcion ….

August 27, 2007

The “old rockers” like the Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Genesis, the Police, and Peter Gabriel, among others, are getting brickbats tossed at them in reviews in Germany. Been wondering how long it would take before people rebelled at handing over buttloads of money for old guys on tour. I wonder what they think of the never-ending Eagles? Genesis, having not toured for 10 years, is still so polished for their stage performance that they may seem a bit too blase. I was glad to see that they at least rated better than the Stones, who it TRULY seems to be only about money. Apparently former Genesis front man Peter Gabriel needed a teleprompter, alas. It’s disappointing, but I don’t see too much of a problem with that considering Gabriel has written a shitload of songs. I’m sure he’s not the only one.

The Cincinnati Reds have finally retired former Big Red Machine shortstop Dave Concepcion’s number 13. Yeah! The guy deserves some kudos. He was frequently under-appreciated, at least outside Cincinnati though he played in numerous All Star games. Always liked Davey, and loved it when announcer Joe Nuxhall would have Concepcion as star of the game. Never could understand a word he said though 🙂

The Reds have retired the numbers of managers Fred Hutchinson and Sparky Anderson, as well as those of Johnny Bench, Joe Morgan, Tony Perez, and Ted Kluszewski (Big Klu, who I believe my mother had a crush on, who had to wear sleeveless shirts due to the size of his upper arms!).   I could have sworn they retired Pete Rose’s 14, but maybe I’m mistaken.  Maybe it’s somehow against the Law of Baseball Concerning He-Who-Shall-Remain Exiled.

Oh yea, that attorney general guy, what’s his name?  Gonzales?  He resigned.  Woot!
