Summerfair, Monfort, and the Relaxacon

June 1, 2006

Tomorrow I’m leaving work early and kayleigh and I are going to head to Cincinnati’s Summerfair. My main reason in arriving the first day is to check out Haitian painter Jean Joseph Monfort’s canvases (his site could be a bit better, but you get the idea). I have two originals and several prints which are amazing. At one point I had a picture of my originals posted to a now inactive blog.

At the end of June is the Midwestcon held by the Cincinnati Fantasy Group, known as the Relaxacon. To quote Wikipedia, “Midwestcon is a type of convention known as a "relaxacon," which means that it has no programming, dealer's room or guests of honor. Instead it is notable as a means for science fiction fans to get together and talk to each other without the distractions of other conventions. For this reason, it tends to be more informal, but also more daunting to outsiders, than most science fiction conventions.” We’ll be attending that for a couple of days.
